Learn to Take a Step Back From Trading

Please watch the video before reading further.
step-back 2Now that you have watched the video above, here’s an exercise for you. The exercise requires some creative thinking as well as some active imagination. You may find that you don’t understand it initially but you will find it easier and easier to answer them sooner or later.

Either way, just play along and you will find this a rewarding exercise but only if you make an effort to answer them. Do take your time when answering the questions.

In the context of Trading the Market, ask yourself these questions:

  • What do the players (in white) represent in your trading career?
  • What do the basketballs represent in your trading career?
  • Are you only focusing on the basketballs when trading?
  • If yes, do you now see a problem, you do, don’t you?

More importantly, you know you can be better, can’t you? If yes, then ask yourself

What does the Black Gorilla represent in your trading career?

What is it that you are missing that is holding you back from becoming better? What have you overlooked while you were too busy focusing on the basketball? What was in front of you that was important but you completely missed it?

If you don’t know, then it might be worth taking a step back from trading to reevaluate yourself. In fact, if you have time, take some time to think about the players in black as well. Ask yourself, what do the players in black represent in your trading career and did the Gorilla camouflage behind the players in black? Or did you just missed it because of the basketballs?

Thank you for reading and do continue to think about the questions after you leave this page.
